Piennolo del Vesuvio Tomato Seeds
Info: The Piennolo del Vesuvio tomato is a special tomato rarity from Southern Italy/Naples where it is still cultivated on the slopes of the Vesuvius volcano. Due to the climate there with its unstable temperatures, this variety has developed very resistant fruits. A special feature is the storage, which is also reflected in the name. The farmers tie the panicles together on a rope or a ring (piennolo) and store the fruits hanging over the winter. The dried tomatoes keep for months and become even more aromatic.
Because of their characteristic tip, they are also known as Venus breasts. The fruits weigh about 25 g and have a slightly thicker skin and a low water content. The Piennolo del Vesuvio has a high tolerance to blight.
Care: Piennolo del Vesuvio tomatoes can be grown indoors, in a greenhouse or outdoors. The optimal germination temperature is between 20 and 25°C and germination takes place after 8 - 14 days. You can speed up germination by soaking the seeds overnight in a damp cloth. You should only plant out the pre-pulled plants after the last frost.
Tomatoes need fresh, well-fertilised, well-drained soil that is kept moist (but not wet!). They should be planted in a sunny, sheltered spot with at least 6 hours of sunlight, preferably more.
