Squash Waltham Butternut Seeds
Info: `Waltham Butternut` Squash is a heirloom and one of the most widely grown butternuts. It produces elongated pear-shaped fruits up to 22cm long with solid dry flesh of orange colour and small seed cavities. It has a nutty sweet flavour and is perfect for creamy soups and baking. This long-lasting squash stores all winter.
Sowing & cultivation: Pumpkin plants need a lot of space as creeping plants and a good nutrient supply. The soil should therefore be profound and nutritious. From mid-May can be sown directly into the open field. Depending on the variety a plant needs up to 2m² of space. Abundant irrigation is very important, especially in the beginning. A typical pumpkin problem are snails. Try as protection a thick ring of sawdust around the young plant. It should be fertilized with a few horns, four weeks later with full fertilizer. The harvest begins in September and lasts until the frost.
