Asparagus UC-72 Seeds
Info: Asparagus `UC-72` is a high-yielding variety with dark green asparagus shoots. It is similar to `Mary Washington` asparagus, but grows slightly larger and also under dry conditions. What makes this variety particularly attractive is its tolerance to fusarium wilt and rust. Since green asparagus is one of the lowest calorie and healthiest vegetables, it enjoys great popularity. The many different uses make it a delicious treat. Since the green asparagus is a little less expensive than the white asparagus, it is particularly suitable for the home garden. The winter-hard plant can provide fresh vegetables for up to 10 years if properly cared for and cultivated.
Sowing & cultivation: As a location, the asparagus prefers a sunny spot. He also tolerates partial shade very well. The soil should be a well-drained, neutral soil. The seeds are best sowed in a sowing depth of 1-2 cm in loose soil. In the following year, the seedlings are planted at a distance of 40 cm (in rows 90 cm apart)and the roots covered with a 5 cm thick layer of soil. When the first shoots show up, soil should be topped up. After the first harvest, compost or fertilizer can be incorporated. This helps to strengthen the plants.
