Sweetcorn Blue Hopi Seeds
Info: Sweetcorn `Blue Hopi` with its deep blue color is a real eye-catcher and one of the most beautiful maize varieties ever. It is an unusual sweet corn developed by the Hopi Indians renowned for its sweet and distinctive blue cornmeal. The plants are branched and grow only 1.50 m high. It is a frugal maize, which brings good yields even on poor soil and with relatively little water. The dried gcorn can be ground to a blue cornmeal, which is proven to contain about 30% more proteins than other maize varieties.
Sowing & cultivation: Sow from May on outdoors. Use a dibber to make 2.5cm holes and sow two or three seeds every 30cm with 45 cm between rows. Sweetcorn grows best if planted in large blocks. It likes free-draining, moisture retentive and nutrient-rich soil. The plants are shallow rooted: protection from winds and water loss in the soil is very important.
