Tree Chili Seeds

Info: The tree chili comes from the highlands of Mexico and can be cultivated perennial. Since it originally grows at altitudes of approx. 2,500 m, it can cope with the cooler Central European temperatures. With good care, the plant may reach a height of 100 to 180 cm and a quite thick main stem, therefore also the name tree chili. It is definitely worth to over-winter this variety, the plant can get more than 15 years old.

Typical for the species Capsicum pubescens are the violet flowers. The variety is very productive and carries lot of the round, fleshy and aromatic red fruits. They are relatively hot and suitable for cooking, pickling and especially good for filling.

Care: Germination temperature is between 22°C  and 28°C (germination period: 12-21 days); it is therefore recommended to use a greenhouse and a heating mat. The plants need fresh, well-fertilised permeable soil and should not be left in standing water. They should be placed in a sunny, sheltered place. As the plants have a particularly long maturation period, and can live for many years, it is recommended to grow them in a pot, so that you can easily bring the plant inside when the temperature falls below 10°C during the day. To keep the plant over the winter, cut it back by 20cm after harvesting and place in a light place where it is at least 15°C.
