Gorria Chili Seeds
Info: The Gorria Chiliis a traditional and extremely flavourful variety from the French Basque Country. If they are grown in the area around Espelette, they can, in accordance with the AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée; Controlled Indication of Origin) use the name Piment d’Espelette. Professional and hobby chefs as well as gourmet lovers from around the world prize this variety as it combines a typical flavour with a mild spiciness. The long, approx. 2 x 12 cm chilies can be used for almost everything. Most pimentos in France are dried and made into the famous flavourful powder, but they are also suitable for fresh consumption, pickling, cooking, grilling and stuffing. In France, pastes (coulis, compote), jams and mustards are often made from them.
Care: The germination temperature is between 20 und 28°C (8 - 20 day germination period), therefore the use of a greenhouse and a heating mat is recommended. The plants need fresh, well-fertilised, permeable soil, and do not tolerate waterlogging. They should be planted in a sunny, protected place with at least 6 hours of sunlight - preferably more. Put the plants outside approx. 2 to 3 weeks after the last frost.
Tips for successful chili cultivation can be found in our Chili Cultivation Instructions and in the Chili Diary.
