Chinese Cabbage April Seeds
Info: Chinese cabbage originally comes from China and forms compact cylindrical heads. Usually, it is sown in July as a second crop, but this variety is already sown in April. It produces small, cylindrical heads and is harvested in summer.
The flavour of Chinese cabbages is more subtle and pleasant than our familiar European head cabbage. The water content is higher, they are crisper and more refreshing and also less fibrous. It can be used raw as lettuce or cooked, as especially in many Asian dishes. Fresh Chinese cabbage is rich in potassium, magnesium, calcium and vitamin C, which makes it a particularly healthy, immersive autumn vegetable.
Sowing & Cultivation: Sow in April in open field in rows with a distance of 50 cm, approx. 2 cm deep. All brassica crops grow best in wind-protected partial-shade, in firm, fertile, free-draining soil. They can also cope with somewhat cooler weather, but needs regular watering (without waterlogging) and fertilization. Since it leaches the soil strongly, the beds should be able to rest between the cultivation 2 to 3 years. Harvest time for this early variety is in summer.
