1. Water the garden early in the morning or in the evening, this saves a lot of water. Because up to 90 % of the water can evaporate in the heat of the day. Another advantage of this? People also protect themselves from the hot midday sun and prevent sunburn ;)

2. If you protect the soil with a layer of bark mulch, you also save water, because this prevents the soil from drying out quickly and the water does not evaporate as quickly, but instead has much more chance to soak into the soil.

3. Plants that need a lot of water are best planted in semi-shady or shady places, because the evaporation of water is lower there. The soil stays moist longer and rhododendrons and hydrangeas in particular will thank you for it.

4. collect rainwater - the rhododendrons mentioned above like exactly this water because of its low pH value, so it is best to place a rain barrel at the end of the gutter and save water. To protect from mosquitoes, a fine fly net can be stretched over the top or you can take care with tablets, which are available from the local council.

6. Don`t cut the lawn so short, because especially in the summer months a short lawn dries out much faster, as much more sun shines on the soil.

8. water more intensively, more slowly but more selectively with a drip irrigation, because the soil can absorb much more water this way. A fast, solid stream washes away much more hummus and the water cannot soak into the soil so quickly and is distributed much more.

9. Pots that are not made of non-treated clay have proved to be particularly suitable for plant pots. This is because a lot of water seeps into clay pots and the plants receive less moisture. But conversely, expanded clay (clay-based) mixed into the soil can permanently store water and thus protect the plants from drying out.

10. always ensure that the beds are kept as weed-free as possible, because weeds also need a lot of water and take away the moisture from our valuable planted flowers.
