Aji Angelo Chili
Information: The fruity, hot Aji Angelo is a chilli pepper that will make your tongue tingle with a heat of between 5,000 and 15,000 SHU. The chillies, which ripen from green to red, are reminiscent of undersized pointed peppers. As the plant is very productive, a large number of pods can be harvested in one season, which are ideal for processing into sauces, chutneys, salsa or powder.
As the Aji Angelo can grow up to 130 cm high, a trellis is recommended so that the chilli does not tend to tip over or break off when it bears the pods. Unlike other varieties, the plant tends to form strong branches later, but these show the typical dark green leaves. In general, the Aji Angelo tends to react to waterlogging and rainy periods with disease, so growing it in a greenhouse can be an advantage to prevent waterlogging and cold.
Care: Germination temperature is between 28°C and 32°C (germination period: 8 - 14 days); it is therefore recommended to use a greenhouse and a heating mat. The plants need fresh, well-fertilised permeable soil and should not be left in standing water. They should be placed in a sunny, sheltered place with at least 6 hours of sunlight per day, if not more. The earliest time to place the plants outside is 2 to 3 weeks after the last frost. If grown in plant pots, you can also take care of them through the winter. It might be necessary to cut them back slightly and place them in a light place where it is at least 15°C.
