Carolina Reaper Caramel Chili Seeds
Information: From November 2013 to 2023, the Carolina Reaper (Red) held the world record for the hottest chilli, here in the brown variety. The variety was bred by chilli breeder Ed Currie of the PuckerButt Pepper Company in South Carolina (USA). The term "Grim Reaper" means "grim reaper" in English, and the Carolina Reaper is also almost deadly hot. Even spice lovers should not eat a whole pod at once (and according to the grower, only in company). Those unaccustomed to spiciness should not try it.
The average values tested by the Chile Pepper Institute were 1,569,300 Scoville units, with individual specimens reaching an incredible 2.2 million SHU.
The plant grows bushy and grows up to 90 cm tall. The fruits ripen from green to reddish-brown, have a pronounced pointed spine and an uneven surface. The flavour is aromatic, fruity-sweet with cherry and chocolate notes and a hint of citrus and, of course, extremely hot. They are hardly suitable for eating on their own, but for making chilli sauce, drying, pickling or freezing.
You can find plenty of useful tips for successfully growing chili plants in our Chili Growing Guide and in the Chili Journal.
