Jalapeno Jalastar
Information: Jalapeños are true classics of Mexican cuisine and, together with tomatoes, form the basis for the famous Mexican salsa Pico de Gallo. The Jalastar variety is a trendy variety that is a delight with its distinct spiciness. Jalastar is considered to be very stable and high-yielding, it is also robust and ripens as early as July.
The fruits are around 6-8cm long and tend to be conical in shape. Typical of jalapenos, they also have a thick pericarp and are often used for stuffing or pickling. The pungency level is between 5-6 out of 10.
Care: Germination temperature is between 20°C and 25°C (germination period: 8-10 days); it is therefore recommended to use a greenhouse and a heating mat. The plants need fresh, well-fertilised permeable soil and should not be left in standing water. They should be placed in a sunny, sheltered place with at least 6 hours of sunlight per day, if not more. The earliest time to place the plants outside is 2 to 3 weeks after the last frost. If grown in plant pots, you can also take care of them through the winter. It might be necessary to cut them back slightly and place them in a light place where it is at least 15°C.
